Style Profile: Shaun Smith

Every now and then you see design that looks fresh, modern, classic and timeless all at once. Shaun Smith, an interior designer from New Orleans, seems to embody all those qualities in his work. Against beautiful white walls, each space has eye-catching detail. His incorporation of antiques, mixed in with modern accessories and clean lines, lends itself to an ideal juxtaposition of style.

As a House Beautiful Next Wave designer to watch, you will surely want to make sure you know his work. His shop on Magazine Street in New Orleans is not something to be missed. I hope you enjoy my little glimpse into his collected world of chic.

The molding around the fireplace lends itself for an ideal spot for a mirror. The gilded table, animal print and flooding of light on white walls gives a traditional eclectic ambience.

While the shutters, doors, columns, and light fixtures are absolutely stunning, it is the incredible glossy wood paneling on the ceiling that really packs the punch.

Shaun Smith Interior Design 4 This entire dining area is a study in balance in genre. From the screen to the dining table to the chairs, nothing feels overwhelmingly bias.

Shaun Smith Interior Design 7A chicly styled coffee table gives a sense of glam. I love the use of modern art mixed in with timeless antiques. White walls really allow the design to shine. More on white walls this week on the blog!

Friday Finds

Happy Friday! This has seemed like “a week.” Lots going on for a very rainy week in February. Despite the dreary weather, I have been dreaming of more fun things for spring! I want to share some more items that have been coveting recently! I hope you all like this Friday Finds series. I think it may be here to stay. You can always go to the main menu and find “Favorite Finds” to easily locate items I have posted in the past.

Also, I want to say a BIG thank you to everyone local and afar who bid on some wonderful art yesterday at Studio 212 benefiting West Dallas Community School! It was a fabulous night full of great music by DJ Lucy Wrubel, yummy bites, and excellent cocktails! Most importantly, all the proceeds of the art went straight to student scholarships.

Enjoy these finds and have a great weekend! XO- Christina

Believe me when I tell you, this is some pretty fabulous art! Even if you don’t live in Dallas, you can also participate in this auction The cool thing is that you can bid right from your phone and be notified each time someone tries to outbid you. There are no names mentioned! So feel free to create login, sign up, and bid on some fabulous pieces starting at 6pm today. Every cent goes straight to the school. This is truly near and dear to me, and all very relevant in the world of interiors. After all, beautiful spaces require beautiful art. Chic in Nashville

I had such a fun weekend visiting one of my college best friends in Nashville to celebrate her birthday!  I haven’t been there since the start of the blog, and finally had a chance to explore more. With the help of her adorable mother-in-law, I had the a chance to see some gorgeous Nashville homes and learn some amazing history about the town.

One thing I noticed in comparison to Dallas houses is that Nashville homes have such lush and large yards. Nashville has really boomed in the past few years, but the true timeless architecture remains a constant. The beautiful federalist style homes, the lush landscaping, and that lovely Belle Meade Green (it is a very dark, gorgeous green labeled after one of the best neighborhoods in Nashville- perfect for shutters and doors).

I hope you enjoy this glimpse into all the chic southern homes I saw this past weekend in Nashville. They truly are timeless and inspiring.

Friday Finds

Happy Weekend! I totally took a “treat yourself” approach to Valentine’s Day and now I am heading out of town for the weekend! I heART it All: Mckenzie Dove

This month into the next, I want to focus on some of my favorite artists. If you think about it, art is really such an integral part of design. I have always thought that until I can afford really nice art, I won’t have anything at all! It is SO not the case anymore. The art world has really become more accessible to artists and clients through social media. By way of instagram, I have discovered so many wonderful artists that I would love to showcase here on the blog. Recently, I have been gravitating towards more abstract pieces. I love the juxtapostion of modern art with more timeless design. I feel it brings a breathe of life and fresh air into a space.
The first artist I want to highlight today is Mckenzie Dove. This Dallas native now lives in Birmingham and creates work that compliments any well designed space. Her pieces incorporate texture and bring about a peaceful beauty to any room. I love the neutral tones and great depth within her art. I truly hope you enjoy this glimpse into her wonderful world of art.

Also, Happy Valentine’s Day!  I love all my fabulous followers XOXO

Pink & Redd

In honor of the week of Valentine’s Day, I thought I would share some of my favorite images of pink and red by one of my favorite designers, Miles Redd. His high-impact design is full of character and pizazz. It is also so incredibly timeless, which makes taking risks in color well worth it. He is masterful with mixing patterns and colors in a way that feels inviting and fresh.

Despite not being the biggest fan of Valentine’s Day, I think these images are surely something to love.

XOXO- Christina

Love Yourself

You may have someone to gift you a fun Valentine’s Day gift, or you can spoil yourself. Etiher way, everyone deserves love on Valentine’s Day. Recently, I have been hearing people talk a lot about “self-care.” They mention it as if it is a new phenomena, yet I have been an expert for years. While you can wait for that someone to give you a gesture of love, you can also bestow some upon yourself. Feel like you need a massage? You probably deserve one. Have you been thinking about a pretty piece of jewelry you’ve seen? What is stopping you from buying it? Do you want a fancy sushi dinner? Well, takeout exists for a reason.

If you want to treat yourself or you have someone who is ready to show you affection on Valentine’s Day, I have some great ideas below!

All my love! XO- Christina

MEMO Jewelry

MEMO is the latest in chic high-end jewelry. They offer 3-day complimentary loan in which you can see, feel and try on jewelry before making a purchase.  It makes the whole buying process much more approachable.  Also, if your loved one buys it for you and you don’t like it, it is easy to return. That said, 80% of the purchaser base is a female self purchaser. Another reason to treat yourself!

Goop Bath

Have you heard GOOP has new bath formulas? What a better way to unwind than with a detoxifying martini bath.

Luggage Tags

A great gift that can create lasting memories would be travel. While it is not normally tangible to see an airline ticket, you can give a chic luggage tag as a lasting placeholder.

Some Things Trendy: Industrial Doors

I have to admit, I went back and forth on this post. I hesitate calling industrial doors and windows “trendy.” There are several houses with them around Dallas that I have admired for years. However, there is a recent  particular surge here of white painted brick houses with industrial doors and windows. Sounds pretty, right? Well, they are beautiful! My hesitation (you can sense it, right?) is that they are overwhelming in number. Nine out of every ten new houses embodies the same look. I even posted the question to my instagram followers. The majority love the look, yet several Dallasites were in agreement with me. My fear is that we will be driving around years later and pass these homes saying, “oh, that must have been built in 2018.” This is not to say they aren’t the perfect juxtaposition on a traditional home. My main piece of advice would be to proceed with caution.
I think the goal of every homeowner is to not date their home. I am doing this Some Things Trendy series to show you the trends for 2018 that I would actually use in a home. Think of it this way- there is a song by an artist that you love, yet the second it becomes overly popular on the radio it loses its appeal. This is often the case in home design as well. Take this simply as a precaution on trends, yet enjoy the beauty that is in these photos of industrial doors and windows below. They truly are chic, when they are perfectly applied.
P.S. I adore them the MOST when they are used in the interior.

So tell me friends, what are your thoughts?
