Beauty and Charm

I have fallen in love and poured over a recent issue of Homes & Gardens from the UK. There is this fabulous New York apartment by Dallas designer Cathy Kincaid that I posted on my instagram stories yesterday. It is totally dreamy! Upon trying to find and share the gorgeously adorned apartment, I searched the magazine’s website only to stumble across this charming home in Norfolk, England owned and designed by Birdie Fortesque.

You can’t help but be charmed by the brick, the wallpaper, the furniture, and pattern. It is a total English dream. With a soft palette and well thought-out design, it is no wonder this is the most enchanting countryside escape.

Oui Oui

Well after London (as featured yesterday), I am also heading to Paris for a couple of days. I am so excited to be back in the city of lights and the epitome of chic. My photos of Paris (pre-blogging days) are some of my favorites. The architecture, the scenery, the gardens- all of it leaves you in a romantical daze. Today, I had to share the beautiful Parisian apartment of the former Veranda editor, Susan Gutfreund. It is a Francophile’s dream. It has all the romance and worldly wonder you would expect from a Parisian apartment, and then some.

This will be my last post before hopping the pond. In which case, I will be back with posts and photos to share all the beauty. Again, please follow @thepottedboxwood on Instagram (and instagram stories) to see up to the minute photos.

The Super Chic Underdog

Note: At the point I was writing this, Atlanta was super ahead. Y’all know how much I love Nantucket…so get some New England Inspiration from my previous post!

Like many things that fall under “American Traditions,” Super Bowl Sunday is right up there. If you don’t watch it for the sport, you watch it for the commercials. If you don’t watch it for the commercials, you watch it for the halftime show. If you don’t watch it for the halftime show, you watch it for the food. You get my point, there is a reason to watch. While I didn’t have a favorite team in the mix, I did enjoy thinking about all the beautiful aspects of the locations of each time. New England has beautiful homes from Connecticut to Nantucket, and Atlanta has such a mecca of fabulous designers and tastemakers.

While they may not be the winner, I had to share some pictures of my favorite Atlanta homes. There is so much talent that exists in the Atlanta design world, and I thought I would highlight a few of the fabulous!

A Chicly Collected Home

I am not quite sure how I missed this house. I subscribe to all the “glossy pages” as I once heard a very amusing woman refer to magazines. Can you blame her? Who doesn’t love a good gloss?! Anyway, I came across the beautiful and vast Ferncliff estate that once belonged to the Astor family. It has since been renovated, restored, and re-imagined by Robert Duffy, with the help of designer Richard McGeehan, into a home that leaves no stone unturned.

I adore Duffy’s requirements for a home- lots of blue, chinoiserie wallpaper, and a dark room with the window seat. I just so happen to agree with all of the above. You can see the passion for collected interiors. It is evident that upon every turn of the corner there is an immediate intrigue about what you may find. So many beautiful antiques you will be sure to enjoy.

I mean…. These are the types of dining rooms I live for. Chinoiserie and blue and white.

I love the chic simplicity of this kitchen.

Look at this room. Layered Persian rugs that Duffy collects are scattered throughout the entire home.  Robert Duffy Ferncliff Estate via Elle Decor. 7

Such an interesting hallway. The exposed brick and dark navy wallpaper are stunning backdrops for artwork.

Well, you know I love this. When it comes to landscaping, all you need is green and gravel.

So many books and rugs. Duffy’s home embodies layers with the most chicly collected ambience.

So many great pieces in one room. That bed is very similar to one owned by my great grandmother.  My only edit (if I was lucky enough to call this my bedroom) would be to make the linens all white on the bed. I just would want to focus all my attention on those fanciful walls!

Such a tremendously beautiful estate.

A House in The Country

It feels like time has not been a friend of mine, but I am so desperately looking forward to some down time. I had a brief window of down time for the first time this weekend, and I was able to enjoy browsing through the new book, A House in The Country, by renown architect Peter Pennoyer and the always chic and colorful designer Katie Ridder. While they are accomplished in their own right, the husband and wife team joined forces to create a picturesque retreat in Millbrook, New York.

The book showcases the wonderfully crafted architectural details that went into this home, from the moldings to the columns to every curated space. The Greek Revival architecture pairs wonderfully with Ridder’s colorful and dynamic palette of design. She leaves no detail untouched. The design of each room seems unexpected, yet the vibrant hues flow beautifully throughout. This book is truly a treat and feast for those who appreciate a fantastic house and memorable design. The book itself shows the layout of the garden and identifies each flower they used. It is every bit as educational as it is beautiful.

Below are some photos of the home published a year earlier from AD. Pick up your copy of A House in the Country to see the real beauty. Also, check my Instagram Story to see more of the home. It is exactly the place I would want to be this fall.
