Fall Tablescape

One slight drop in temperature here in Texas inspired me to get into the fall spirit. Since I am without little ones, I don’t really “halloween” things around the house. Instead, I prefer a more seasonal take on this autumn/thanksgiving season. I also don’t love using orange that much in my decor. In fact, i really don’t have much of anything with that color besides a punch or two of tangerine around. I like to infuse a bit of fall with white and green pumpkins, jewel tones, and chinoiserie blue & white pumpkins hand painted by some of my favorite artists.

I had the same approach with my fall tablescape this year. I wanted a dash of color, contrast, and functionality to add a punch of fall and festivity to my place settings. I hope you are inspired and feel free to “shop the look” in my links!

p.s. my soup spoon is incorrectly placed in some of these photos- I had to move it for space. Don’t be mad :)

Fall Tablescape by The Potted Boxwood 7

Pumpkin (like any flower arrangement- it ranges in price):

The real winner of the table was my custom pumpkin centerpiece from Dr. Delphinium. I had jewel tones of  deep amethyst and boxwood green make a perfect contrast with the white pumpkin. LINK

Tablecloth ($168):

For my table, I chose a Poolside linen tablecloth from Sferra. It is one of the pricier items, but it is exceptional quality. There is nothing worse than a scratchy and cheap tablecloth!

Plates ($18, $22), Napkins ($15) and Water Glasses:

For my salad and dinner plates I went with Juliska’s melamine line that is dishwasher safe and unbreakable (always a good thing if you are cleaning up at the end of the night after a few glasses of wine). Also, a great way to use the “nice stuff” around kids or not so steady friends and relatives. The Forest Walk Napkins are of the highest quality and would go with any fall tabletop!

Chargers ($15) and Placemats ($14):

I added some texture and contrast with cork chargers and rich green snakeskin placemats from Caspari. I couldn’t find the Caspari chargers online anywhere, but Juliska makes similar ones that are a little more expensive!

Flatware ($79 for 20 piece set):

I love bamboo and I think gold glistens at the dinner table. For $79 you can get a 20 piece gold bamboo flatware set that serves four. It really added the right amount of chic and glam to the table! LINK

Fall Tablescape by The Potted Boxwood 5 I made these Whipped Ricotta Crostinis as an easy appetizer when people first walk in the door. So simple! You can top with anything. I used extra butternut squash from the pizza on some, and then marinated some mushroom in olive oil and balsamic glaze for the others. Recipe: HERE

Fall Tablescape by The Potted Boxwood 17 I have some velvet pumpkins from Hot Skwash on my bar cart. Just a fun way to add a little Fall to any space

Fall Tablescape by The Potted Boxwood 19 Green and white is one of my absolutely favorite color combinations. Normally this would have two small orchids, jade plants, or balls of preserved boxwood. The minute it turns October, white miniature pumpkins replace it!

Fall Tablescape by The Potted Boxwood 20

I ordered these hand painted blue & white pumpkins from Karolyn at The Relished Roost years ago. They are some of my favorite fall items. I blend them in with my other blue and white pieces and ALWAYS get compliments on how fresh and chic they are!

A House in The Country

It feels like time has not been a friend of mine, but I am so desperately looking forward to some down time. I had a brief window of down time for the first time this weekend, and I was able to enjoy browsing through the new book, A House in The Country, by renown architect Peter Pennoyer and the always chic and colorful designer Katie Ridder. While they are accomplished in their own right, the husband and wife team joined forces to create a picturesque retreat in Millbrook, New York.

The book showcases the wonderfully crafted architectural details that went into this home, from the moldings to the columns to every curated space. The Greek Revival architecture pairs wonderfully with Ridder’s colorful and dynamic palette of design. She leaves no detail untouched. The design of each room seems unexpected, yet the vibrant hues flow beautifully throughout. This book is truly a treat and feast for those who appreciate a fantastic house and memorable design. The book itself shows the layout of the garden and identifies each flower they used. It is every bit as educational as it is beautiful.

Below are some photos of the home published a year earlier from AD. Pick up your copy of A House in the Country to see the real beauty. Also, check my Instagram Story to see more of the home. It is exactly the place I would want to be this fall.

Fall Back

Finally! Cooler temperatures and the month of October give reason to bring out the pumpkins and Fall decor. Yesterday, I brought out my beautiful hand painted blue & white pumpkins from Dana Mahnke of Indigo Home Shop and from Karolyn Stephenson of The Relished Roost. They are ideal next to all my other blue and white pieces. Fall decorating really gets me into the spirit of the season. Nothing says Fall quite like a Pumpkin Chai candle from Nest, as well as large pots of white mums. Also, this season I am very drawn to white and green pumpkin (pictures coming soon).  I love the clean and subtle chic look (I decided to leave orange to the leaves). Here are some of my favorite Fall inspired images to get you ready to Fall back into the holidays.

All photos via Pinterest unless otherwise noted.

Photo I took at a garden tour last year. My inspiration for green and white pumpkins.

Another view.

I love all the greenery here.

Every year, I buy a pumpkin from Dr. Delphinium here in Dallas. They make remarkable pumpkin arrangements that last all season.

A perfectly chic display of green and white pumpkins.

A beautiful Fall arrangement I spotted at a Dallas home last year.

Lovely tabletop.

I love the monochromatic tone of this pumpkin topiary.

Falling Into October

Well, the time has come to get on board with the holiday train. October is the month where all of the festivities officially begin. Get your pumpkins carved today because tomorrow you will need your grocery list for Thanksgiving, and the next day it will be time for your Christmas list shopping. While in the midst of this madness, I need to move as well. I am taking a tiny step out of condo living and inching more towards townhouse lifestyle. A backyard, a fireplace, another room to decorate…..I think Emmie and I can use a little more room and a little more quiet. This also gives me the opportunity for a front door step, which is a whole other space to decorate that leaves me more excited than one should be (it is the little things right?).

When the holidays come around, the front door becomes a true symbol of your holiday style. From wreaths to potted arrangements, this area is the first symbol of your taste in decor. Of course, the most classic and simple route is to put two potted boxwood out front and call it a day. It is also fun to add a little seasonal flair. I think October 1st is the best time to do that, and I think these images can inspire you to get your outdoor entry prepared for the perfect curb appeal.

Ortanmental Cabbage with Boxwood and Spider Web

A picture I took last fall in Manhattan of a festive sidewalk display. I love the ornamental cabbage with the boxwood and the spider web across the sphere. Photo by yours truly.
