Houston & Harvey

Out of respect to our more southern Texas neighbors, I am postponing my post until tomorrow. Hurricane Harvey has been completely devastating to the coast and all those around the Houston area. Please pray for all of those that will continue to get rain into the week. This is a very catastrophic natural disaster that needs all of our attention, support, help, and prayers.

This picture below is from my friend in Houston. This is one of the entrances to the historic and coveted River Oaks neighborhood. It really does look like an actual river with oaks…so sad.

It is possible to fall in love over and over again. Nantucket proves it.  I was back again this summer visiting my friend and her gracious mom who is a full time islander. From the hydrangeas to the wavy beaches to the shingled houses and cute shops, the island is the ideal signature of summer. I just have to share some photos that I took while I was there. Enjoy the visual dream that is Nantucket.

Where to Stay

Greydon House just opened after the last summer season. It was designed by Roman and Williams and exudes a charming warmth in chicly designed setting. Located right in town, you can walk to your favorite restaurants and shops. However, you wouldn’t even need to leave the hotel since it boasts one of the best restaurants. See more pictures below.

Heart in Cleveland

Miss me? For those of you who follow me on instagram, this summer has been full of travel from coast to coast for various reasons. Not to fret, I’m officially back in the Big D and back to our regularly scheduled programming. Throughout the summer, inspiration would strike me and I would think, “that would be a great blog post.” Sadly, I never had time to do it! Needless to say, we have a lot to catch up on!

One of my last trips this summer was to Cleveland, and I’ll be honest, it wasn’t by choice. The Cleveland Clinic is the number one heart hospital in the country. When we found out my dad needed a procedure, I quickly found myself checking Ohio off of my list of states. I must say, I was blown away by the quiet beauty of the homes and neighborhoods surrounding the area. There is an understated midwestern charm that you could miss if you aren’t paying attention.  It is a subtle elegance that is shown in the meticulous care and upkeep of beautiful and timeless older homes. They are the type of homes that you look at and say “they don’t make them like this anymore.”

While most of my time spent there was in a hospital, I did get to explore just a bit. Hope you enjoy my few snapshots of Cleveland, which include Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights, Gates Mills, and Chagrin Falls.

This was a very busy road, so hard to snap a great picture of this ivy covered gem.

I really admired how the homes in Cleveland have sprawling and beautiful front yards.

Charmin’ Charleston

By: Emmy Berg

Known for its quintessential charm, Southern Hospitality and delicious cuisine, Charleston, South Carolina is home to some of the most beautifully historic homes south of the Mason Dixon.

Quaint streets lined with two or three storied homes sets the scene for a picture perfect destination.

Whether you favor the classic Charlestonian brick, wood frame, or stucco, this vivacious city has it all.

Head toward the Battery on the Charleston harbor and every direction you’ll find classic homes that showcase one of Charleston’s most unique features, the double-decker porches.

These staples, more traditionally known as piazzas, face south or west in order to capture the breeze. They also have another common feature, “haint blue” paint coated on the ceilings. This light blue color is said to warn off ghosts, negative spirits, and insects from entering the home.

Covered porches are only one of many traditional “Charleston” features. More include, the classic “Charleston green” color, hinged shutters that come in a variety of colors and sizes, ironwork, porte-cochères, and historic wood paneling.

Whether you’re taking a carriage ride down East Bay, strolling through the Market, or shopping along King Street, this Lowcountry gem is home to some of the most picture-perfect houses that maintain the city’s rich history.
