Baby Love

It seems that lots of my friends are bringing little bundles of joy into the world recently. Wedding showers are quickly turning into baby showers, and with that comes a whole new room they have to decorate. One good friend just had a beautiful baby girl, and the other is preparing to welcome one. Also, my friend Jennifer from Belclaire House Blog is expecting a sweet little girl in January. I thought it would be fun to share a selection of fresh, feminine, and overly sweet bedrooms fit for one lucky little girl.

For those of you who don’t know if it is boy or girl, this soft palette works either way. There is also nothing like a calming room for baby.

Red or Blue

As election mode gets in to full swing people often ask red or blue, but often I much prefer that question in its literal context. I have my own inner debate with myself about red dining rooms. Many people have them, so I always walk on egg shells saying that I do not care for them. Of course, that is a very blanketed response. There are some beautiful red dining rooms. There are also many gorgeous blue toned dining rooms. Even better, there are always  lovely combinations of the two.  I thought I would do a fun dining room color comparison for the bold red, beautiful blue, and swing voters.

California Dreaming

I love looking at real estate listings all over the country, and the world in fact. To me, it is the perfect Sunday afternoon browsing after several weeks of “go,go,go” (hence the lack of posting recently). I came across this one historic estate in Montecito, California, and I am desperate to see the inside, because the outside is truly spectacular. It has that old school California Spanish colonial charm. I hope you can do some California day dreaming today!

Darling Draper James

I just came back from a truly spectacular weekend celebrating a very close friend’s wedding in Napa Valley. All events took place at Meadowood, which was incredibly enchanting and subtly chic. The resort was full of potted boxwood and had exceptional service.

Immediately upon my return to Dallas, I was heading to one of my favorite Mexican restaurants when I noticed that Reese Witherspoon’s store, Draper James, opened in Highland Park Village. I had seen that Mark D. Sikes was behind the design of the store and it could not be more chic in it’s style. Between trying on some cute new clothes, I snapped some pictures of the perfect jewel box space. High gloss blue paneled doors welcome you in with spheres of boxwood in the window. The rest is such a fun play of lighting, wallpaper, and patterns. Enjoy the photos, and if you don’t have Draper James near you, it is time to pay Dallas (or Nashville) a visit.

Graciously Gorgeous

Have you ever heard that the best plastic surgeons are artists? It is a combination that goes hand in hand. I mean, seriously, would you want someone who wasn’t aesthetically capable touching your face? I didn’t think so…The same goes in design. I feel there are artists, and then there are designers. I find myself drawn most to those who hold both talents and combine them into one profession. It is very evident that William Mclure is a gifted artist with an impeccable eye. I have loved following the Birmingham based designer on instagram for some time now and recently have seen more of his work pop-up online.

I must also share with you all his talent to make a room feel collected in a way that Southerners know how to do better than most. Mclure gives this sense of sophistication to his rooms that is universal in its appeal. His spaces immediately make you want to curl up with a good book, or be slightly overdressed with a glass of something strong in hand. Despite the serious design, there is a sense of light and easy chic that follows along into each colorful room.

Here are a few of my favorites. I really just can’t stop looking at all the talent and ambience that is held in all the spaces he creates. Can’t wait to see more from him! Photos from him website: WilliamMclure.com

A fantastic bed. I love the contrast of this entire space. Who said a neutral palette has to be boring?

I imagine it must be convenient being a designer and artist. This piece here is created by Mclure himself. It fits perfectly with the space. Truly talented.

Can we just take a moment to admire the palm in the basket. What a great way to incorporate a little green and a lot of texture.

This room makes such a statement, and is a large contrast to his other spaces. I love the firewood and intimate arrangement.
