Bories & Shearron

Pinterest is like the yellow brick road of design for me. I find myself clicking on one link that leads to another, that leads me to another glorious discovery of a new architect, new landscaper, new designer, or even a new blog . There is a high probability that you may have found The Potted Boxwood through Pinterest. Social media is facinating to me, especially the kind that shares pictures and not drama! I digress…

Yesterday, I was purusing Pinterest and came across the most stunning blue doors, which lead to the website of architects Bories & Shearron. It was a delightful discovery, even though after looking at their images, I immediately noticed many of their projects from publications. Their work is captivating and their details are unparrallelled. They have collaborated with Miles Redd on many projects (including The Boxwood house in Atlanta). They know how to incorporate their architectural savvy into homes that have an invigorating, yet classical ambience.

I hope you enjoy your day!

Is there any detail of this not to love? Blue door (knob in the middle), green glossy entry, leopard chair, black high gloss doors leading into the next room. This is everything I love about life in an entryway! (design: Todd Alexander Romano)

What a beautiful sketch full of lovely large potted topiaries. I love how the door is off to the right instead of centered. A fun toss-up of symmetry.

This room is full of subtle luxury. It avoids being too dramatic, but still has the right amount of panache. I think it’s the wallpaper! I could slip right into this room.

Spring Cleaning

I have to admit something. It is embarrassing and not really “like me,” yet it is the truth. At times, I have a messy closet, making a simple task of finding some loose flats nearly impossible.  It is one of those Monica on Friends situations where everything else in my home is perfectly in place, yet my closet looks like a dumping ground for all of the trash on the island of Manhattan (nice, upscale retail trash).

This weekend I decided to tackle it. Thankfully, the “spring cleaning” weather makes me slightly more productive than my usual “sleep-in and binge watch TV shows” weekends of the winter. While it is not where I want it to be, it is certainly better. If only Hold Everything were still in existence, and if only I could move into one of these coveted closets. Get inspired to get organized! Happy Spring cleaning!

Keep the Beauty

Sara Gilbane

The other day while at the drybar getting my hair coiffed for a night on the town (aka dinner and then straight to bed), I couldn’t help but flip through the latest design issues. One photo that immediately caught my eye was a bedroom by Sara Gilbane Interiors. I should note, I look at tons of beautiful images every day so when something makes me stop and stare, I definitely pay attention. The poor woman giving my blowout must have thought I was crazy (no..she definitely did!)  for snapping pictures of magazine articles the whole 45 minutes.

I was just captivated by this photo. The soft texture of the bedroom and the warm sophistication immediately drew me into the design. Then again, looking at all of Sara Gilbane’s work has the same effect. She sprinkles rooms with pattern, but envelops them in a glowing softness. Her work is sensible, smart, and classically chic. I hope you enjoy!

Elegant Elkins

Francis Elkins chairs are one of those things that I hope to covet one day as my own. They are synonymous with classic good taste, and yet also add a touch of whimsy to a room. Often people think classic items are safe (and dare to say boring). I think that is far from the truth with Elkins chairs.

The way the chair design loops together, they are an art form in themselves. They hold a great power in the rooms they occupy. I would even say they can steal the show from the table. If given a choice, wouldn’t you rather have more beautiful chairs over a table. After all, chairs are to be sat in, outwardly displayed, and can become a lifetime investment. If there is one thing Francis Elkins chairs are, it is a lifetime investment that I would be willing to bet on.

White Wash

Easter is over, and I needed yesterday to recover from a quick traveling weekend to Pinehurst, North Carolina. The weather was beautiful and I bought some wonderful finds from local decor shops (see post this Friday!). Because Easter is over, this also means that white is back!! The day after Easter is it’s own special holiday for me. It means white jeans are acceptable in places other than Florida, and I quickly do away with my indigo denim boredom.

When it comes to design, white is always a great canvas. It is also very tricky to perfect. I recently watched (multiple times)  Laura Slatkin’s interview on Quintessence. She described how she was at Lenny Kravitz’ home in Paris, and begged him for his white paint color. White is difficult, but when you get it right… it is so worth the clean, crisp, and classic ambience it exudes.

I hope you are “white” here with me! Happy Tuesday!

Sea Side Celerie

Happy April! This is not a joke post. Although, I did seriously consider it. I was going to post some gaudy home with an all black bathroom from tiles to toilet, plenty of paisley patterns, and glass block galore. I decided that while that would be entertaining for you, the people who own that home would most likely be offended and I am not in the business of hurting people’s feelings. Everyone has their version of good taste and who am I to judge!

That being said, I will happily judge Celerie Kemble’s Dominican retreat featured in this month’s Architectural Digest. It is cheerful, colorful, relaxed, and totally chic. This is just the kind of inspirational design that I want to see for the start of Spring. It makes me happy, and who doesn’t want to be happy that we are half way through the week.

For more images of Celerie’s home pick up the latest copy of Architectural Digest.

Whimsy and playful, this dining area has the potential to be very elegant for a dinner party and very casually chic for a luncheon. I love the basket of towels in the right corner, fabulous!
