Gifted & Talented

I hope y’all had a warm and relaxing Thanksgiving. Thankfully I will not be braving the large malls, but only the small town streets in the land of the pines.  I recognize that there are so many gift guides to choose from, so I am merely suggesting some of my favorite things this season of good quality and design. I included items that can be purchased from small boutiques to chain stores.  A little bit of everything for everyone on your list.

Please click the pictures for links to products. Happy shopping!

A Blue & White Holiday

There is nothing more I love than tasteful holiday decor. This past weekend my good friend Sara in Atlanta visited the Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine Holiday House. I knew this house was going to be phenomenal, especially since I follow the incredible Danielle Rollins on Instagram and was able to see her constant progress on the den she designed with Bill Ingram. I asked sweet Sara to send me pictures of this incredible home, and I was not disappointed.

Lance Jackson and David Ecton of Parker Kennedy Living designed a brilliant back porch on this home that is graciously adorned with blue and white porcelain pots filled with potted boxwoods and chic red ribbon design. My friend was only able to snap a few pictures, but the ones she did take were worth sharing.

Enjoy these potted boxwoods perfected. Happy Monday!

Making Moves In Nashville

Nashville is a fun, vibrant, and eclectic city, yet I am a hesitant fan of it today. One of my very best friends is packing up in Dallas and moving there after this weekend. While it is a wonderful and exciting move for her, I am sad to lose the everyday presence of a fabulous friend. On a positive note, I get a marvelous excuse to visit the growingly popular city.

In honor of her impending address change, I thought I would share with you one of my favorite Nashville projects by Brookschmidt & Coleman. It is a home that has classic structure and chic flair. It is a perfect representation of my sweet and always chic friend, as well as a great way to send my lovely readers into a lovely weekend.

Photos of this home by architects Ridely Wills and designed by Brookschmidt & Coleman were featured in Elle Decor.

Brown Beauty

Brown. Poor brown.  I feel it gets a bad rap. It was only a couple of years ago when brown and turquoise were all the rage, yet how quickly did that color combination get old? The common philosophy is that black is more striking than brown when it comes to design. I must admit that I tend to agree. However, when the shade of brown is bold it can make a statement all on its own.

From a rich cocoa to a light luggage color, brown can be versatile in classic and contemporary decor. When it comes to brown, I believe that texture is key. When it is a velvet brown on an arm chair, or a high-gloss brown on a wall, it can make a big and bold impact.

Here are some pretty brown beauties that are always in season.

On Point

Needlepoint is an art that is not just for your grandmother, and it is coming back in a big way. Having a needlepoint pillow on your chair is no different than having a piece of art on your wall. I have recently come to adore the timeless and detailed needlepoint designs of Elizabeth Bradley Home. They choose only the highest and finest quality materials to create stunning pillows that can be placed in spaces modern or traditional. Just to know how detailed Elizabeth Bradley Home is with their prized pillows, each one takes over 120 hours of hand stitching.

While I don’t have 120 hours to spare, Elizabeth Bradley Home continues to create unique floral  needlepoint pillows that can provide striking contrast or blend beautifully with your home’s color palette. If everything old is new again, then an Elizabeth Bradley Home needlepoint will surely be  a thoughtful and lasting holiday gift.

See and purchase their newest collection on their website: www.ElizabethBradleyHome.com. Click pictures for links.

Tablescapes of Thanks

It is hard to believe that next week is Thanksgiving week, although the bitterly cold Dallas weather is certainly helping it feel like winter is here to stay. The weather also may have prompted me to get an early start on my Christmas decorating. I used to loathe those who skipped Thanksgiving and went straight to Christmas, yet I find myself yearning to get a head start on the decoration process (true confession- my tree is up. Yes- I’m full of shame).

In my opinion, decorating for Thanksgiving has always been a dressed-down version of Halloween. Same pumpkins, sans the spook and spiders. I believe the best way to decorate for Thanksgiving is to deck the table. Today, I want to share some inspiring tablescapes that you can keep in mind when you start to map out your turkey-day soiree.

While the food and the company count the most, the table, like the home, makes for a beautiful backdrop.

The Jacques Of All Trade

Jacques Grange is a name that I have come to know well over my years of love for interiors. His work has frequently come across my radar as worldly, sophisticated, and in a word – timeless. Jacques knows how to approach a room and his clients’ sense of style. He can make a room effortlessly chic for Aerin Lauder, or luxuriously decadent for Valentino. Jacques has truly mastered the art of “perfection in reflection.”

It also helps that Jacques Grange has meticulous attention to detail in his design. He can understand how to make a room moody and dramatic with fabric and color, but then use natural light to soften the ambience. Jacques embodies true timeless design that is wary of becoming overly traditional or modern. Grange lands in a perfect place in the middle, but he is anything but overlooked.

Homes in Herringbone

It is a rare occasion that I come across hardwood floors I don’t like, but there is a common trait among those I do love. Herringbone style hardwood floors are a classic choice that can be used in many different types of decor. Personally speaking, I love very dark hardwood stains in a herringbone setting. They provide the perfect contrast and chic backdrop to any color or texture in any home.  As you can see from the images below, herringbone floors add automatic life to a room through subtle pattern, dimension, and design.
