Southern Hospitality

This weekend my friends and I hosted a bridal luncheon for dear friend who is getting married in Atlanta in the fall. She is the quintessential southern belle, who is a fabulous combination of preppy, stylish, and charmingly witty. She is also the ultimate entertainer, so we had to make sure this party would live up to her high southern standards.

Of course, I believe that all you need for a great party is interesting guests, excellent food, and even better drinks! Fortunately, we had all three of those- plus a wonderful backdrop to host. The shower was held at Sissy’s Southern Kitchen in Dallas. Renowned Chef Lisa Garza had us dishing out seconds with her jalapeno cornbread, perfect fried chicken, and a plethora of southern sides. From the flowers to the food, they did all the hard work!

I hope you enjoy these great pictures (for once!)  from the shower that were taken by my good friend Blair over on The Perennial Style blog. If you love fun fashion and style, Blair and her two sisters are a wonderful source of inspiration! Following the shower pictures are more timeless tablescapes perfect for a daytime shower, brunch, or get together!

The Shower

Sissy's Invitation

I adored the blue, green, and white color combination on the invitation. Especially that shade of blue!  Invitations from Swoozie’s

Flowers with Yellow Door

The event was held on Sissy’s side porch, complete with a picturesque yellow door.

Flowers at Sissy's

Sissy’s arranged the flowers in Ball jars with simple green hydrangeas, pink peonies, and sage.

Name Tag and May Book

For the party favors we had May Designs notebooks with the wedding hashtag customized on the front. Seated here is Caroline Hurley of the fab blog Caroline Covets, get all your royal and fashion scoop from her! Place cards are by Caspari.

Downhome Cooking

The lunch was served buffet style on classic Spode.

Food shot

It may not have been the healthiest luncheon, but it sure was delish!

Spode Serving

When doing a buffet, It really helps to serve food on different heights. It eliminates the reaching and makes a boring buffet look slightly more interesting.

Grapefruit, Pineapple, and Orange

These carafes were so smart. Guests were able to mix their choice of orange, pineapple, or grapefruit juice.

Let’s Play Pool

As a native Floridian turned Texan, I know a thing or two about heat. Currently, it seems as if summer has jumped right in and that it won’t be departing anytime soon. So while it is here, I am also going to jump…right into the pool and into my weekend!

Happy Friday and Happy Everything!

Stairways to Heaven

Have you ever been to party where there is plenty of good food, drinks, and entertainment, yet all you want to do is walk up stairs and tour the rest of the house? Frankly, I have been to my fair share. It is uncouth to ask for a tour, yet it is even more brazen to give one to yourself. I am not going to blame myself for this curiosity…it is completely the stairs fault. Often times there are pictures lining the wall or an interesting wallpaper, even really cool railings that just make me wonder what more design fun must be on the second floor.

If a home tells a story, then stairs are the ultimate transition. Wouldn’t you want to break the rules and climb these luxe stairways?

I know this is a rather small and grainy image, but please tell me you recognize this? “Annie, is that you?” Shed a tear for Lindsey Lohan’s innocence, for the passing of the chic Natasha Richardson, and then take a moment to remember how many Hard Candy nail polishes you would have traded to live at 7 Pinprick Lane (The Parent Trap). I may have lost some of you here, but if you know good design then you know a Nancy Meyer’s movie when you see one. More to come on her fab film decor.

Posh in Palm Springs

I recently visited Palm Springs for my best friend’s bachelorette party. Her parents own a beautiful home there, which is decorated in monochromatic tones and lots of attractive Restoration Hardware furniture. It was the ideal place for a girl’s getaway. Of course these days, a trip to Palm Springs is not complete without a visit to the Jonathan Adler decorated Parker hotel. From a delish brunch at Norma’s to a relaxing massage at the Palm Springs Yacht Club, The Parker was truly the quintessential chic and trendy place to be.

A big thanks to the bride’s sister-in-law, Jennifer, for the perfectly planned bachelorette weekend! Be sure to visit her tasteful interior blog the Belclaire House. She rocks!

*These pictures are also from my iPhone, sorry for the quality. I am researching good high-res cameras to buy. Leave a comment if you have any suggestions!

Closet Envy

I think all woman (and stylish men) dream of the ideal closet, I know I do. If I think about the countless hours I just stare at my clothes wondering what to wear, it would add up to a significant amount of time. Wouldn’t you rather spend that time contemplating outfits on a plush ottoman, with dark gray high-gloss custom cabinetry and an interesting chandelier…or maybe that is just me!

Here are some closets that give me major case of closet envy.

Going Green

The other day I was looking for a blue and white ginger jar to go by my front entry, yet I kept gravitating toward a green and white Chinese porcelain piece. After my fifth time picking it up and putting back, I finally decided I had to have it. Recently, I have been attracted to all things green. There is something about it I find so fresh, timeless, and luxurious. See for yourself…

Come And Knock On My Door

If there is one thing that Italy and most European cities have, it is beautiful doors. I could barely walk a block without stopping to snap a picture. I even bought an antiqued lion head door knocker for the gorgeous black lacquered front door that I don’t even have (yet)! Their doors are just so unique and intriguing that they deserved a post of their own.

Chic in Italy

I recently came back from a trip to Italy. I visited Florence, Tuscany, and Rome, each place majestic in it’s own right. Florence quickly became my favorite city. It is no wonder that so many artist flock there due to the city’s ideal lighting. Tuscany was just as charming, although the steep, windy roads and I did not quite get along. Rome is such a vibrant and historical city, and I wish I could have stayed an extra day to do more antique shopping. Also, the service and style at every hotel I stayed in was truly remarkable- I didn’t want to leave!

Here are some photos from the different hotels and cities. I stayed at the Four Seasons Florence, Castiglion del Bosco in Tuscany, and J.K Place Roma. Hope you Enjoy! Ciao!

Welcome to The Potted Boxwood

A potted boxwood is a precursor, a telling symbol of timeless style. I often find it to be true that when you see a potted boxwood somewhere in the landscape, there is a tremendous chance that the decor inside will be of good taste- and, if you are lucky, very fabulous. While this is not an absolute truth, I do find my theory to err on the side of accuracy. Do this for me, the next time you are driving or walking by a pretty storefront or housefront, see if there are any boxwood to be found. Chances are there just might be. Then, do yourself a favor and peak in the window…of the storefront, not the home!

I hope this blog will be a fun source of inspiration and a way to share all of the fantastic design that is truly everywhere (well there are exceptions). To learn more about the blog and myself see the ABOUT section. Also, on the right side of the blog are links to all of The Potted Boxwood’s social media accounts- follow me!
